چکیده
Background: Lateral Medullary syndrome is an acute ischemic stroke characterised by occlusion of the vertebral artery/posterior inferior cerebellar artery. The study aimed to describe sensory pattern and clinical profile patients admitted with lateral medullary syndrome. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive was done in neurology department at Thanjavur Government Medical College, Tamil Nadu. Twenty clinically suspected were taken into this for one year. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain MR Angiogram confirm suspicion They examined detail pattern, relevant investigations done. Results: Among 20 LMS patients, 85% males, mean age occurrence 53.2 years. All them had infarcts medulla. Hypertension, diabetes mellitus dyslipidemia most common systemic risk factors. observed classical, loss sensation ipsilateral face contralateral body 45% patients. presentation walking instability, bulbar symptoms, a longer hospital stay. second only impairment face, seen 30%. Their unsteadiness while walking, no shorter stays, better recovery. Conclusions: often after 50 years, hypertension, diabetes, as

Restricted dissociated sensory loss in a patient with a lateral medullary syndrome: A clinical-MRI study.
BACKGROUND Various sensory syndromes in lateral medullary infarctions are described. A small variation in the location of a lesion may lead to very different clinical features, owing to the complex anatomy of the medulla oblongata. MRI may identify the location and extent of the ischemic lesions, allowing a clear clinical-anatomical correlation. CASE DESCRIPTION We describe a man with an isch...
متن کاملSensory sequelae of medullary infarction: differences between lateral and medial medullary syndrome.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A comparison between long-term sensory sequelae of lateral medullary infarction (LMI) and medial medullary infarction (MMI) has never been made. METHODS We studied 55 patients with medullary infarction (41 with LMI and 14 with MMI) who were followed up for >6 months. We examined and interviewed the patients with the use of a structured format regarding the most importan...

Introduction: Evaluation of persistent vertigo in post infarct patients is very important as the management depends on whether the cause is purely of central origin or due to associated vestibular affliction. Case Report: A patient with left sided dorsolateral medullary syndrome and persistent vestibular symptoms was evaluated. Vestibular test battery showed abnormal smooth pursuit, bilateral...

The circle of Willis as an anatomic structure can be defined as a network of blood vessels affording communication between the carotid system and the basilar system, encompassing an anterior and two posterior communicating arteries and proximal portions of the anterior and posterior cerebral arteries. However, this description is still not fully satisfying beca...
